I´m making a bit more hardtesting of the trade what I didn´t really have the time to in the beta. I think there must be a bug:
This is a harsh game without farming, so I buy fruit, vegetables and grain and have started to auto trade. To my surprise, the merchant left among some real vegetables and grain also salted meat and smoked fish, someting I certainly don´t want to buy.
There´s another thing that somehow needs to be changed; I order beans and bread from some merchants but you can´t buy a full boatload before the port is full, even when you have no other goods than money/gold/silver stored in the port. I will write more about this when I´ve played longer. And also my general thoughts about how the trade works in a larger settlement.
I’ve fixed this bug, it was set to bring all edibles in the different food categories.
For auto-trading we probably have to increase storage capacity. Great that you test this more!
Can I get this changed version anywhere? It´s pretty tedious not to be able to auto trade any food when you buy almost all of it except proteins and so far I´m only at 300 inhabitants and I wanted to see if I can make 1000 this way.
I tried to make a patch for trading issues but it’s a mess with all resources, crops and things which would have to be included. The 7.1 alpha version I’m working on is probably not save compatible to your running game and also not ready for testing right now. But I would like to make one next week, so we can test a bunch of fixes and balancing changes plus my peat approach.
My idea so far for making auto-purchasing possible also in small docks and to re-balance storage as you suggested because of food weight is to increase capacity of storage buildings by 25% and of trading docks by 50%. A small trading dock with then 9k cap can close an auto purchase of a full boatload (max 8k) with 1k buffer.
OK! I have a few more suggestions and thoughts about trade in general but I want to play a bit more today so I will write a bit late this evening or tomorrow. I want to find out how many trading docks you need for this “full support” with food as they are now.
